Why Executive Coaching?

World-renowned Fortune 500 executive coach Marshall Goldsmith maintains that senior executives are kept from advancing further not from a lack of technical competence or managerial expertise, but from behavioral traits, annoying habits, and/or shortcomings in their interpersonal skills that - unbeknown to them - are negatively affecting their relationships with seniors, peers, and direct reports. An executive coach first determines what needs to be corrected and subsequently works one-on-one with the person being coached to drive behavioral change.

In order to ascertain the behavioral changes that need to be adjusted so that the executive may advance up the corporate latter, a 360-degree assessment is conducted by the executive coach. This assessment queries superiors, peers, and subordinate’s to determine the coachee’s positive and negative traits as perceived by the men and women with whom he or she works. In the workplace, perception is truth. It is the coach’s mission to: (1) Make the client aware of how others perceive him/her; (2) Get his client to acknowledge his/her shortcomings; and (3) Work with the client to effect positive behavioral change.
